I’ve just gotten back from the Neurologist and she’s given me some tips that I thought I should write down as I might forget (knowing me at the moment)
- keep my bed for sleeping and marital relationships (in the absence of anything remotely resembling marital relationships I guess I’ll just be sleeping)
- no internet (gasp), TV or reading in bed. Hmm, I think I should dig out some readings from my University days I’m sure they’ll put me to sleep
- Stop taking Ibruprofen and Panadol so much. Only take if I REALLY need it… she sees lots of people with serious headache issues and addiction to these painkillers is a very real problem. Why do GPs insist on loading you up with them then?
- Start doing Yoga (but we both agreed, not kooky Yoga – does that exist?)
- Exercise
- Breathe
- Take small rests after 45 minutes during the day
- Go to the States!
- Get out in the sunshine (easier said than done when it’s dark not much after 5pm at night)
- Take hot baths
- Not get over tired and cranky like a two year old (did this yesterday, wasn’t fun and wish I could throw a tantrum like a toddler and have someone pay attention).
- Revive my domestic goddess skills and make good food and freeze it so when I’m tired I can simply defrost (did this already and it’s fantastic)
- Oh and focus on something called Sleep Hygeine… whatever that is…. it sounds like sleeping in aclean bed to me!
I’m just going to focus on routine and getting myself better!
Yes, there *is* kooky yoga! My friend was telling me about it the other day. I think it’s called Khundilini yoga… not sure on the spelling. She said that your reactions to certain poses can tell you stuff like if your kidneys are out of balance. Whaaa???
Yay! Come to the states! It would be fun to meet up!
Sleep hygiene is *so* important and so neglected by so many! It’s stuff like what our moms used to yell at us about… make it quiet, no tv, no reading, no caffeine in the evening… stuff like that.
I’m glad you got good advice… this doc sounds like she was worth the wait!
